Although we may play different roles, we are unified in our joint mission:
To empower ecommerce businesses with current, accurate, and actionable information so they can fulfill their dreams.
We might do this by improving a customer's accounting workflow, we might do this by explaining how to read a financial statement, we might do this by reconciling a customer's shopping cart sales, or we might do this by publishing a "how to" video on YouTube. It doesn't matter.
We make ecommerce businesses better.
We are lifelong and fast learners.
We have the natural desire to improve everyday and apply that to our work, and because it's part of our daily life, we're really, really good at learning.
Nobody has to tell us how or when to Google something, watch a video, read an article, and/or listen to a podcast about ecommerce accounting. We are all doing that already.
We are poised and ready to solve any problem through research and hustle.
We know there is an infinite number of things we don't know, and running into something we don't know doesn't embarrass, surprise, or frustrate us - we simply take that as a challenge and another welcome opportunity to learn something new and grow.
We are constantly striving to see the world from as many points of view as we can.
Whether we're traveling the globe to talk to accounting firms in other countries to find out their perspectives, brainstorming in the Accounting Salon about how to make the industry more inclusive, or even attending conferences for "rival" accounting systems, we desperately want to know what we don't know.
We believe that big ideas and great success come from looking at the world through someone else's eyes and encouraging diversity of thought.
We welcome anyone who shares our passion for ecommerce accounting and wants to help us make Catching Clouds a better, stronger, and more diverse company.
We continually strive to help others, and this is equally true for everyone we interact with, not just our customers.
When we're helping answer (or even when we ask) questions, we'll share links, screenshots, or whatever's needed to help communicate quickly and effectively to ensure every interaction is at the highest level for all involved parties.
Our favorite way to help is to help entrepreneurs succeed. We understand that what we do elevates their business which not only helps them achieve their dreams but also has a ripple effect on their employees, their families, the economy, and sometimes even the world.
There is a wave of technological innovation in the cloud accounting space where automation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and new ways of working are all quickly transforming the bookkeeping and accounting space.
We are happily riding that wave of innovation.
We are always keeping an eye out for the "next best thing" that'll make our lives or our customers' lives easier.
We know our accounting tools inside and out. Each team member is a "tool champion" on one or more of our tools so we can freely share deep knowledge about each product among our team and quickly alert others if anything changes.
If we're using accounting technology that should do something more for us than it's doing, we don't keep it to ourselves. We see ourselves as partners with our accounting tool vendors, and we provide feedback to these partners so they can improve their product for us and for the accounting community at large.
We thrive when presented with a challenge. We have an almost compulsive need to solve problems and are amazing at it.
We take ownership of our work, and if we see something broken, we do our best to come up with a solution to fix it.
If we can't solve a problem on our own, we aren't stalled. We are proactive and take initiative.
Our team has a wide range of expertise and skills that we can tap into to help us solve our problems, and we don't hesitate to share our challenges with the team so we can come to the best solution as quickly as possible.
We believe that to go far, we need to go together. Two heads are better than one, and three heads are better than two.
We work as a cohesive team.
We rely on each other for fresh eyes, as a sounding board, or sometimes as a second pair of hands.
Our clean handoffs, proactive updates, and consistent communication tell us when someone needs a helping hand and when someone else can help carry the load. And then the work shifts seamlessly to accomplish the goals of the company.
We cover for each other when we're on vacation so nobody has to cram all the work from their missed time into the days before or after a vacation.
We live and breathe data. We know how to question data that doesn't make sense, and then we dig in and work with it until it does.
We ask as many questions as we need to ask from as many people as we need to ask to excel at what we do.
We understand how to use technology to our advantage to work smart instead of hard. But that doesn't mean we don't work hard.
We are able to do a lot with a little, and we know how to make systems talk to each other without junking up the works.
We keep our eyes open and learn not only from our own but from our team's mistakes, and then we make changes to our processes to avoid making the same mistakes again.
We are not limited to working inside a box. We either don't see a box or we know how to bend the box to our will.
We are analytical and detail-oriented but with a heart. We understand the full picture of how problems impact companies and their employees, and we drill down into the details with context.
We focus on building systems that improve quality, ease, and accuracy and minimize frustration and error.
We love testing things to see what works. Measuring results and iteration are part of our DNA.
We do not accept the status quo but rather always find a way to improve a process.
We deeply subscribe to the "Getting Things Done" methodology.
We believe that establishing and maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly habits create amazing results over time and minimize stress for everyone involved.
"Accounting emergencies" are a result of failure to properly plan and prioritize. We plan, coordinate, communicate, and create well-considered routines that ensure our success.
We effectively prioritize our work and excel at time management.
We set boundaries with our clients and others so we can prioritize important work over urgent but unimportant work so we can consistently accomplish our goals.
Whether we are racing to get out of an escape room, unraveling a customer's issue, sharing "watercooler" gifs on Slack, attending a Rockies game, or running in a 5k our teammate has organized (hat tip to Jo and the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue), we are grateful for and enjoy our team group experiences.
We also recognize that there's much more to life than work.
Working remotely eliminates our commute and allows all of us to work wherever we are. This means we are able to spend more time with our loved ones and do other things we love beyond ecommerce accounting.
